5.2.5. EXPLOSIVE POWER TOOLS
Only
authorised and properly trained employees may use explosive-powered
tools; all such tools shall be used in accordance with manufacturer's
instructions and applicable regulations.
5.3
WELDING
Electrical
arc welders are safe machines to operate when used properly and
intelligently but like many machines, they can be used in a wide
range of conditions. It is important for operators to understand
their limitations.
5.3.1
SAFETY POINTS FOR WELDING
Do
not overload fuses on welding circuits.
Use protective clothing and safety equipment - goggles, shields.
Lenses, gloves, leather jacket or apron - designed for the purpose,
at all times.
Always check that all equipment, flexible cords and plugs are well
maintained.
Regular maintenance checks by a qualified electrician are essential.
5.3.2.
WELDING CABLE
Welding
cable shall be connected or spliced in an approved manner.
There shall be no exposed metal parts in any splice.
5.3.3.
GAS WELDING EQUIPMENT
Acetylene
and Oxygen cylinders must be used in an upright position.
They should be strapped securely.
All
Oxygen, Acetylene and stored pressure gas cylinders should be secured
in an upright position.
Do
not allow oil or grease to come in contact with oxy-acetylene fittings.
When not in use, turn cylinders off and ensure there are no leaks.
When
transporting gas cylinders (which are not fixed in trolley) remove
regulators.
Always observe transport requirements.
Oxygen
cylinders must never be stored near highly combustible materials,
especially oil and grease, or near fuel gas cylinders.
Caps
should be replaced on cylinders that are empty and such cylinders
shall be marked "Empty"
Never Weld In Confined Spaces Without Adequate Ventilation.
