4.8 RESPIRATORY PROTECTION

Good facial fit is a prime factor in obtaining good protection by respirators utilising half or full face pieces. All users should be aware of the importance of a good facial fit in the selection and maintenance of a respirator. Beards, moustaches and some hairstyles will interfere with the facial seal and it is unlikely that a satisfactory fit will be obtained.

If you are unsure about how to obtain a good facial or you think that your beard or moustache is affecting the fit check with your supervisor or foreperson.

4.8.1 APPLICATION OF RESPIRATORS

In any possible toxic environment a suitable type respirator is to be worn.
In "permit to work " situations, the "permit to work" requirements must be strictly adhered to.

4.8.2 APPLICATION OF AIR WASH MASKS

In a possible toxic and/or dust atmosphere, e.g. spray painting, dusts, fumes, smokes, mists, gases and organic vapours of low toxicity, the approved type cartridges for use in personal respirators are available from your Job Supervisor.
Disposable Dust Masks are available for use in any area where dust is a nuisance.
