3.3 FIRE PREVENTION AND CONTROL

3.3.1 FIRE PROTECTION
When you start at a new job location it is always advisable to look around and find where the fire extinguishers and fire exits are located so as to be prepared in the case of an emergency. Ask the foreperson, supervisor or safety officer if hot work permits are required prior to grinding, oxy welding/ cutting or arc welding.

Also check if any flammable liquids are stored in the vicinity, and if so remove them from the area. The information card in the timebook cover gives examples of each type of fire extinguisher and the types of fires they are used on.
There shall be no unauthorised open fires. Where an authorised fire has been lit, the person in charge shall ensure that the fire is constantly attended and kept under control until such time as it is extinguished.

Familiarise yourself with the fire and emergency alarms at the client's site as soon as you arrive there.

Only use Extinguishers for the type of fire they are designed for, and do not use fire hoses for any other purposes.
